Co-sponsored by Welspun and American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), the mission of IndiaFest is to introduce India's rich and varied culture, cuisine and artwork. Food stalls with several variety of food items were set up from North, South, East and Western regions of India. About 275 participants put together several cultural events in the form of dances, fashion shows, songs and instrumental music and kept the crowd spellbound. Thanks to the social media such as Facebook and web site, about 7000 to 8000 people flocked to River Market to enjoy and experience the beauty of Indian Culture. Several stalls were set up to sell Indian clothes, jewelry and handicrafts. Enthusiastic people got henna tattoos, draped sarees and took pictures with the famous Taj Mahal in the background..all for free. An educational stall as well as a cricket stall was set up to introduce the crowd to Indian heritage and India's most popular sport.
Due to the overwhelming response and a huge number of attendance, we plan to use the amphitheater for the cultural events and both the pavilions of the River Market for food stalls during the coming years. We certainly look forward to make this event a bigger and greater success each year.
